Topcat Lite
Top Cat Lite is a new software product developed to enable customers to use a Microsoftâ Windows NTâ Server to support Acorn
Computers. Using Thin-Client/Server technology developed by Citrixâ
Systems Inc. and Microsoft (MS) enables Acorn Computers to run the latest 32-bit Windows
applications, such as MS Word 97, MS Excel 97 or MS Internet Explorer 4.0.

Technical Specification
| Ease of Installation:– installshield wizard will guide the administrator to
install and configure the software. Also included is an un-installer to safely and
completely remove the software from the system. |

| Operation:
Client Machines can present a ‘welcome’ screen followed by a login screen.
Alternatively the clients can be configured to boot directly to the Windows log on screen.
Windows Mode:
The operation in this mode will be to the standard provided by the Windows NT Server,
Terminal Server Edition and the Citrix Metaframe. |
| RISC OS Mode:
Is not supported with Top Cat Lite – if this is required, the ‘Top Cat’
product is needed. |
| Default Mode:
It will be possible to configure client machines to boot directly into one of the desired
operating system modes – ie Web- Browser, Windows, or to the select screen as
required. |

| System Management:
Client and user management is centrally provided on the Windows NT server using standard
tools. |
| Security:
Access security is provided by Windows NT login user identities and passwords. Control is
available to limit access by users to selected areas and files and services on the server. |
System Requirements
 | Microsoft® Windows NT® Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition, and |
| Citrix® Metaframe Client/Server is needed in order to run Windows
applications on the clients. |
Hardware:
| Hardware to meet the requirements of Windows NT and Citrix Metaframe, plus 10 Mbytes of
free hard disc space |
| System RAM – 64Mb is the minimum recommended (plus 8-16Mb for each supported client
machine when running Citrix Metaframe). |
| LAN: Ethernet 10BaseT network interface and cabling or other suitable network |
Client machines:
| Acorn Thin Client Computer(s) with NC OS 1.06 or later and Ethernet interfaces |
| Other Acorn RISC OS machines having RISC OS 3.1 (or later) or with suitable Topcat
Client software upgrade |
| All machines networked using an Ethernet 10BaseT network or other suitable
configuration. |
| Web and email access to download evaluation software and updates. |
