NT Filer

Up

This section describes how to configure Atomwide's NT Filer for use in a Topcat system.    It applies to Topcat Version 1.4 onwards.   The instructions assume you are using NTfiler 1.29 or later version.

!NTFiler

Copy the application into the following folder:

Armboot.!Boot.Resources

!NTFiler !Run

TCFiler provides the default Logon and Server icons in Topcat.     If you are replacing Topcat's !TCFiler with !Ntfiler, and you are using NTFiler version 1.39 or earlier you will need to add the following two lines to the !Run file in the !NTFiler folder (just before the final Run command):

SetMacro Choices$UserWrite <TCFiler$Userpath>
SetMacro UserChoices$Path <TCFiler$Userpath>.

(Note the "." at the end of the above line.)

For NTFiler version 1.40 or later it is not necessary to add these lines.

!NTConfig

In the 'Dummy user' field in the 'When off' box enter:

armuser <password>

where <password> is the armuser's password.

In the 'Command to Execute' field in the 'At logon' box enter the command:

Set TCFiler$Userpath <NTFiler$Homedir>

In the ''Command to Execute' field in the 'At logoff' box enter the command:

Unset TCFiler$Userpath

In the 'Shared Areas' section, the mounts Armboot and Server should be set up as follows:

Name for Mount

Server

Share Name

Bar Icon

Area 1

ARMBOOT

<server name>

Armboot$

No

Area 2

Server

<server name>

Server$

Yes

Users

For the existing user Topcat and when adding users using User Manager for Domains you must explicitly allocate the user's home directory using the Profile button.    Either share the user’s home directory or a mount point above it and enter the path to the user's home directory. It should be stated as a UNC path (\\server\share\path) in the Connect To.. section of the profile (rather than a local path).  For the Topcat system user, the detail to enter in the "Home Directory" section is:

Topcat:       Connect Z: to \\<server name>\Topcat$

where Z: is the drive letter to be allocated to the user's home directory when in Windows, and

Topcat$ is the share name of Topcat's home directory.

If you haven't shared individual users' home directories, but have shared instead the parent folder, then put the path in as appropriate.  eg:

User1:        Connect Z: to \\<server name>\Users$\User1  (you can use %username% instead of User1 for multiple users)

NB: Do not set a Home Directory for users ArmBoot or ArmUser - if you do, then a No Such Connection error will result.

Starting NTFiler

For Topcat version 1.4 with Patch 6a or earlier:

If you wish to replace the default !TCFiler with NTFiler, in the Armboot.!Boot.ROxxxHook.Boot.Desktop files, comment out the line:

Filer_Run <BootResources$Dir>.!TCFiler

(by inserting a pipe (|) character at the start of the line) and add the following line:

Filer_Run <BootResources$Dir>.!NTFiler

in its place (it assumes you have saved !NTfiler in the Armboot.!Boot.Resources directory).

You will then need to delete all the IDxxxxx folders in the Armboot.!Boot.Mchconfig directory and re-boot the client devices in order for the changes to take effect.

For Topcat version 2.0 or later:

Place the following line into your local Settings file (in the Armboot.Tcconfig.Local folder):

Set Topcat$Filer !NTFiler    (replace any existing line setting this variable)

Then on the next re-boot of the client machines, they will use NTFiler instead of TCFiler.
